Dr. Christiane Northrup: a dynamic lady

Posted by Robin Easton

Awhile ago I was honored
to have the opportunity to read a
n early copy of Dr. Christiane Northrup’s new book titled, The Secret Pleasures of Menopause which is being released today, Oct. 15, 2008.

In a word this book is dynamic. What makes it dynamic? Is it the groundbreaking, holistic and much needed information? Yes, that’s all there and it’s essential for all perimenopausal and menopausal women. And yes, it will definitely change lives. But this book’s relationship to any other book on menopause ends there.

What makes this book stand up and shine while other menopausal books are still sitting down? It’s the unbridled brilliance of the woman who wrote it. Dr. Northrup doesn’t sit around twittling her thumbs. Nor does she slowly drag you down a long droning path of boredom. Not this gal. She’s vitality personified.

When you open this book you better sit down, fasten your seatbelt and get ready for a wild and ecstatic ride, because Dr. Christiane Northrup jumps off the pages and into your life as if she were your very best friend. You know, the kind of friend you discuss the nitty gritty details of your life, your dreams and secrets desires. Northrup rolls up her sleeves, climbs into the trenches with you and shares her life, wisdom and love. She is funny, witty, honest and has more life in her than a barrel of monkeys.

Although this book contains all the needed information it’s not a dry scientific read. In fact I’ve never read anything like it. The Secret Pleasures of Menopause is not only for perimenopausal and menopausal women, it’s for ALL women. And if you men really want to know women, what they think and feel, if you want to better understand their bodies, their secrets and desires then read this book. You will never again look at women in the same way. I believe The Secret Pleasures of Menopause is a must-read for all men, as well as every woman (of any age).

This is a thumbs up yahoo book!

Have fun,
Robin

Maybe it will explain why my mom is acting so weird lately. You think?

Robin Easton Writes:
Hey my dear Shirley friend!! Good to see you here. You may be joking about your mom…not sure. But if not…..I do know that the more a woman can look after herself — exercise, healthy wholefood diet, lots of water, positive people, time to be still and meditate or simply sit in nature — the more alive, stress free and happy she will feel at any time of her life, but especially at a time when her body is going through perimenopause or menopause. I think your Mom would really enjoy The Secret Pleasures of Menopause She probably would also enjoy DocNicole’s site. DocNicole’s would a great place to ask questions and get advice. She could sign up for news letters at either of these ladies sites.

Love, love, love Christiane! Her book Women’s Bodies, Women’s Wisdom has been my bible for years. I don’t know how many copies I’ve gone through — keep lending them out and they don’t return. Imagine that.

Had the great good fortune to meet her and hear her speak at the Chautaugua Institute a few years back. Have you noticed she keeps getting more and more youthful as she ages? Since I am now officially, ahem, perimenopausal, I am particularly looking forward to this latest release.

Robin Easton Writes:
Hi Dear EarthMother: I can easily see why her books are not returned to you! :) And yes, I too have noticed how she looks younger and more beautiful every year. The most remarkable thing for me in her new book, beyond the information, is her unbridled vitality. She really lets loose and I really relate to that. Simply reading her book and experiencing a woman who was like me, made me feel more alive. In fact, she gives us permission to be fully alive…then she gives us the tools to fulfill our potential. Through parts of The Secret Pleasures of Menopase I sat reading with a huge grin on my face…or I laughed out loud. She truly is vivacity unleashed!!! :)

Might have to get this one.. Most of my friends are a little older than I and going through this.. but I myself had to have a hysterectomy about a yr ago.. so could find some useful info in this one.. thanks for sharing Robin

Robin Easton Writes:
Yes, Stacey, in this book there is information and lively energy that ANY woman at ANY age can use. In fact, if most of this information were given to us when we were younger I believe we would all be more dynamic and powerful women. And I know a lot of powerful women, but this book is creative, lively and just great for staying healthy and living more fully. Great to see you here. I loved your comment on my post FALLING IN LOVE. I agree with every word that you beautifully stated. Thank you.

BTW…if any women suffer from night sweats. They should try wicking pajamas. They really help to combat that pesky symptom of menopause

Thanks for the heads up Robin. Dr. C. is always a treat. I’m having an early menopause here (because of medical treatment) but your review – and the great title of the book – made me feel almost like that makes me part of a special club. Secret pleasures being just my bag. I’m sold! Over to Amazon!

Robin, I’ve not heard of the book, but I will be checking it out, ‘just cos’ you said to do it’. (Hee hee) Your word carries a lot of weight in this mind. As I endure my “personal Summers”, this may just be a good book to refer to! – Nards

This subject is of increasing interest for women in particular. Yet, you would be surprised how many men would like to learn more on this to help them understand women differently. Marianne Williamson has also published a recent book that draws on menopause. Readers may also wish to check out–The Age of Miracles: Embracing the New Midlife.

Robin Easton Writes:
Dear Liara, I was pleased to see your thoughts in regard to men. I agree and find it very exciting as I’ve met many men who are genuinely curious and eager to understand their partner and woman in general. I was also pleased to see that Marianne has written a book that draws on menopause. Wonderful things are happening in the world, profound shifts. Ooooh, that thrills me. I will have to Google her book. Thank you for sharing that. And also thank you for visiting me here; I am deeply honored. Love, Robin

I know that many of my friends here would love your site. It REALLY makes me think. And I know that just as it inspires me to write when I read your site; it would inspire many of my writer friends. Check out Liara’s site at:

Indeed Dr.Northrup is an outstanding person! I had no idea she had a new book out. I saw her first a few years ago on one of her PBS specials and I was blown away by her wisdom and warmth. I also saw her on Oprah and Today also I recommend her other books, like the one EarthMother mentioned. She is indeed a wealth of knowledge.

And as I too am completely into holistic health and medicine I really value the opinion’s of people who take into account the whole mind and body connection. Thank you for letting us know about this new venture for her!

Robin Easton Writes:
Hi my dear Evita, You wrote: “…I was blown away by her wisdom and warmth.” When I opened The Secret Pleasures of Menopause I was very taken by Dr. Northrup’s warmth. In fact, I felt her energy so strongly that I had to refocus on the words. I mean, for me, she jumped out of that book and right into my heart and soul and home. She strikes me as completely unbridled and bursting with Life, simply radiant, like you see in small happy children. As you know, I relate powerfully to that. Just writing about it brings tears to my eyes. I too highly value people who look at the WHOLE picture. So good to see your light here. Love, Robin :)

Robin,
This is incredible!!!! I love Dr. Christiane Northrup, I have been listening to and following her for years. What an honor and what a coup to have her review your book.

I will look for her book in audio and hope it comes out soon.

Good stuff comes to good people—that’s why the universe is sending you beams of love.

hugs,
mir

Robin Easton Writes:
Hi Dear Mir, as you’ve probably already read here, what I love about Dr. Northrup is her fearless passion for Life. As women we have great power if we are willing to let Life in, if we are willing to reach out and embrace Life. When we do this it infuses everyone around us with Life and brings about positive change. It gets people “hopping and hoping”. :) Through actively living our own passion for life we invite others to awaken, rise up and LIVE! That changes the world. Thank you for your kind and supportive words. Love, Robin

Hi Robin! Thanks so much for this information…I’ll check it out. So far I’ve been lucky dealing with the “personal summers” so I haven’t delved into the subject, but now I will. I’m probably missing out on some good and important stuff! Thanks again!

Robin Easton Writes:
Hi Dear Holly, so wonderful to see you today!! :) The cool thing about this book is that it’s much more than just dealing with “personal summers”. It’s a book about bringing vitality, spontaneity, sexuality and sensuality into our lives. At the same time all the needed health info is there. Hugs, Robin :)

I just read this really great interview with Dr. Northrup (it was conducted by a former colleague from the Women to Women clinic in Maine so the tone is relaxed and juicy!). Here’s the link: An intimate interview with Dr. Christiane Northrup. Can’t wait to read the book!

Robin Replies

Hi Dear Jacqueline, I am touched that you stopped in to share this link. How kind of you! I am eager to check it out today. And yes, you will love her book. I found the review copy just so extremely vivacious, witty, and real. Simply juicy. She is completely ALIVE. Also very down to earth in a way that ALL women can relate to. She doesn’t remove herself from her readers or speak in a dry clinical way. I felt like I was talking with my best friend, right down to the intimate details and secrets that all best friends share. Thanks again for your kindness. It’s much appreciated. :)
